SUBJECT: DCMS PTO eNews October 3, 2024 (StuGo Dance, Meet Ms. Luz, Support DCMS by Shopping at Fry's + More Inside!)
What does a Community Specialist do, and how do you support our school?
PTO: What is a community specialist? How do you support our community?
Luz: A Community Specialist supports the community by providing resources to families in need. Sometimes, these resources come in the form of food, clothing, rental assistance, doctor's referrals, and/or help with their utilities when times are tight. Of course, we depend entirely on donations of physical items and partnerships for services. I also try to support individuals by just listening.
PTO: How long have you worked for SUSD?
Luz: I have been at the district for 6 years and worked 7 years prior in the Anaheim Union School District in California at the same capacity.
PTO: What do you love about DCMS?
Luz: DCMS is home. Really. Parents are compassionate, staff is friendly and giving, Lord knows I could not do my job without them. Children respect me and I want to come to work in the morning. Not a lot of people can say that.
PTO: How can our DCMS families help you in the work you do?
Luz: When it comes to help, every single grain of sand counts. The community can respond by answering to my needs whenever possible. I do receive a lot of donations, but my space is limited, so I have created an Amazon wish list that help me receive what I need on a regular basis.
